Sure, Avengers: Infinity War is currently tearing up the box office, but there’s another Marvel-inspired superhero movie right around the corner. I’m talking about Deadpool 2, and many fans are thrilled to see the new characters like Bedlam (Terry Crews) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) and what they bring to the table. One other cameo that Ryan Reynolds has been trying to get is Hugh Jackman, and the Wolverine icon has finally responded to the requests by shutting his friend and former co-star down. During an appearance on Good Morning America, Jackman said:
Yeah, actually I might just have a little message for Ryan. Ryan? Hey buddy, how are you, mate? Ryan, I love you, man. I love Deadpool, I can’t wait to see the movie. You’re one of my best friends, Blake, the fam, the whole thing. But, back it up a little, just play, play a little hard to get. It’s too much, it’s not sexy.
It’s a sad day for X-Men fans who were hoping to see Hugh Jackman make an appearance in Deadpool 2. Despite Ryan Reynolds’ constant pleas to capitalize on their proven rapport with one another, Jackman won’t return to the X-Men franchise, and he wants Ryan Reynolds to tone it down a little bit. Jackman is clearly kidding around in his remarks, but if we’re to take what he’s saying at face value, then it looks like he won’t make the jump.
Of course, there’s also an argument to be made that Hugh Jackman should not return to the X-Men universe for Deadpool 2. Logan provided his tenure as Wolverine with a near-perfect conclusion, so bringing him back in any capacity could undercut the emotional punch of his 2017 magnum opus.
Then again, it’s entirely possible that Hugh Jackman could show up in Deadpool 2 and not play Wolverine. We know that Hugh Jackman exists in that universe in addition to the adamantium-clawed badass, so it would not be a huge stretch for him to show up as himself in a cameo capacity. That said, based on Hugh Jackman’s remarks during his appearance on Good Morning America, it sounds like it is not going to happen.

Regardless of whether or not Hugh Jackman shows up in Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds will return to reprise his role as the Merc with the Mouth when the film premieres later this month on May 18.
